Breast Lift
Also known as a mastopexy, a breast lift is a cosmetic surgery designed to raise and firm the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissues, creating an improved breast contour. Breast lifts are popular for women who have lost firmness or the youthful shape of their breasts due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, heredity, aging, and weight fluctuations. However, a breast lift performed alone will not significantly change the size of the breasts or round out the upper portion of the breast tissue.
Breast Augmentation
A breast augmentation, or augmentation mammaplasty, is a procedure designed to increase the size of the breasts through the use of saline or silicone breast implants. Saline implants consist of an outer silicone shell filled with a sterile saline solution, whereas silicone implants use the same outer shell, but are filled with a cohesive silicone gel. A breast augmentation not only provides women with larger, fuller breasts, but also helps to create more pleasing proportions, making the hips and waist seem smaller in comparison. While breast augmentation with the use of larger implants may increase the volume of a woman’s bust-line, breast implants are not designed to raise the breast tissue to a higher position, and therefore may be performed in conjunction with a breast lift.
